Useful International Religious Freedom Report Released

The United States Department of State released the International Religious Freedom Report for 2013. The executive summary presents a global view regarding the challenges to religious freedom and efforts to promote the free practice of religion. The International Religious Freedom Report for 2013 and related country reports can be assessed at state.gov/religiousfreedomreport.

This internet site also provides approximately 200 useful country reports, complied by United States Embassies around the world, which provide greater detail regarding the state of religious freedom and specific abuses.  Each report has four sections: Religious Demography, Status of Government Respect for Religious Freedom, Status of Societal Respect for Religious Freedom and U.S. Government Policy. Executive summaries and detailed reports for countries provide easy access to the level of detail desired.

This type of information is first of all useful to those who wish to better understand of current events. Field workers will gain insight into the culture of a specific country and government policy toward religion. Researchers will appreciate the demographic information.  Intercessors will find insights that enable them to strategically pray specifically for a country.  Reports for 2011 and 2012 are also available, offering a broader perspective.
